Balancing his commitment to Protiviti clients and the British Army Reserve

Rupert Fischer
Consultant, London, UK
Rupert Fischer, a graduate consultant in the Protiviti London office has bridged his passion for consulting and client service with his commitment to the British Army Reserve.
Disciplined Military Approach Leads to Innovative Client Solutions
“The Army teaches you everything from tangible skills like technology and communications, to soft skills like discipline, making sure you look presentable and know how to talk to people,” explains Rupert. Transferring these valuable skills to the fast-paced world of consulting, Rupert navigates delivering for his clients with precision and strategic foresight.
His local office’s supportive culture has allowed him to balance work with his commitment to the Army Reserve. “The Protiviti team is extremely understanding of my reservist role. They allow two weeks off annually for deployment. My team is aware that when I deploy on weekends, I must leave work a little earlier. The military isn’t something that feels like it’s in competition with my Protiviti work.”
Empowering Teams with Military Efficiency
In his role, Rupert oversees a specialised team of analysts staffed through our parent company, Robert Half, as part of our managed solutions. Currently, Rupert and team are engaged on a business process improvement project in the information technology sector. Their project entails creating processes for and leading a deals management team for a technology client, staffed by Robert Half analysts. These areas are vital for ensuring seamless internal functions and supporting the client's agility and responsiveness in a fast-paced industry.
His people management and problem-solving approach is influenced by varied challenges faced during his military service which translates well into consulting scenarios. “It is helpful to tap into my military-honed skills in leadership and team management for client projects to ensure they run seamlessly and align with my client’s needs,” he says.
Championing Change through Cultural Insight
As a leader of Protiviti UK’s Military Network Group, Rupert fosters an inclusive environment that recognises the value veterans bring to business challenges. He actively contributes towards shaping company culture by bridging civilian-military understanding. “Through our initiative, Protiviti UK has signed the Armed Services Covenant, a pledge that expresses our support for veterans, reservists and their families.”
In May 2023, Rupert participated in King Charles' Coronation, having been part of the Proclamation in September 2022. During the Coronation, Rupert was stationed on the Mall as the King and his procession moved from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace. “It was an honor to be part of such a special event and national history, let alone see the King and the rest of the Royal Family in person,” said Rupert.
Rupert's journey from commissioning at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst to leading critical initiatives at Protiviti is commendable and inspiring, embodying the spirit of Life At Protiviti. His commitment showcases how leveraging diverse backgrounds propels us forward and helps us deliver superior results for our clients.
